Trash to Treasure Contest - GCFP Convention April 21-23, 2023

“THYME to Garden in Pittsburgh!”  A Sculpture for your Garden 


Pittsburgh was home to immigrant families who found work and wealth in its many earth-  related industries.  Therefore, this contest is for a stand-alone functional metal sculpture for the garden (e.g., not limited to iron, steel and aluminum).  Specifications:


  1. Dimensions:  must be exhibited on a base, no larger than 14” Wide or 14” deep.  Height is minimum of 20”.
  2. Weight:  No more than 15 lbs.
  3. Materials:  Any type of metal(s) that is/are recycled, reused or repurposed.  May use dried plant materials (NO fresh).
  4. Each entry must include a 3 x 5 card:

                Front:  Title and a list of the materials used

                Back:  District, Garden Club, Designer(s) name and mailing address.

      5. Entry may be work of more than one person.



ONLY ONE ENTRY FROM EACH DISTRICT

Selection method is determined by the district.


District entries selected for Convention competition must be submitted 

on Friday, April 21 from 11-5 PM at the Monroeville Doubletree Hotel. Judging is at 5:15 PM.


Entries are not to be judged under the same standards as a flower show.

District II/III Meeting September 14, 2022

All the presidents of the garden club's gave a President report at the GCFP District II/III meeting on Sept. 14, 2022. Claire gave the president's report and Barbara gave a report as outgoing corresponding secretary and chair of the Smokey Bear/Woodsy Owl contest. Cynthia, Ways and & Means Chair , sold raffle tickets and gave out baskets to the winners. Members, Carol, Helen, Marsha and Nassar also attended the District II/III meeting. Cynthia will head Ways & Means again next year. Past President Brenda will step in as Treasurer for District II/III. Barbara will be involved with The Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania (GCFP). Thank you to Cynthia, Brenda and Barbara for stepping up to help at District and GCFP.
