Parkland Garden Club Bus Trips

SLEEPY HOLLOW IS MORE THAN JUST PUMPKINS

TOUR LYNDHURST AND KYKUIT, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 9, with the PARKLAND GARDEN CLUB

Members and friends will enjoy an autumn day touring these gems of historic importance.  Lyndhurst dates back to 1838 but was enlarged by each of its two later owners, the last of which was Jay Gould, the railroad baron back in the Gilded Age.  Gould used Lyndhurst as his summer home; TV film and movie producers used it as the Collingwood Estate in Dark Shadows.  Kykuit was home to four generations of the Rockefeller family whose wealth came from building Standard Oil into a world-wide business.  You may remember son Nelson who served as governor of New York and then as Vice-President of the United States. It was his son Michael who went missing in 1961 on an expedition in New Guinea, presumably eaten by cannibals.  In addition to the home, the grounds and private art galleries are quite lovely.
